Moving the Steel City from Wuhan to Chongqing along the Yangtze River is an incomparable progress. The Lu and the He family suffered from defying the Japanese, which forged down their love affinity to three generations.
During the final years of Qing dynasty, Lu Meng Sheng (a posthumous child of the first Sina-Japanese War officers) was adopted by Zhang Zhi Dong (a prominent politician in late Qing). Lu and He Zi Zhou, who is two years older than him, are close friends.
Da Dao Shu is a Chinese orphan, but was considered Japanese due to her adoption by a Japanese steel engineer, Hideo Oshima.
The three met in Hang Yang iron factory. Da Dao Shu was given the name “strange woman” by Lu and He because of her intelligence of making irons.
Da Dao Shu fell in love with He and devoted herself completely to him. Lu was against this since he hates Japanese people. However, the origin of steel made them to never forsake each other again.
Lu Yun Xi and He Jia Yu experienced the expedition of moving west with their father. Upon their passage, bombs were dropped from Japanese planes, which caused them to separate. As a battalion commander of PRM (People’s Liberation Army), Lu Yun Xi took over the steelworks. He Zi Zhou who is a returned student from U.S. collaborated with Lu Xun Xi once again. Although experiencing from the wave of the Great Leap Forward, the wind and rain of Cultural Revolution, and the reborn of Reform and Opening-Up policy, the two become involved with a battle against each other that deals with relationships. The two have disputes that relates to work, but the ill-fated relationship remains the same for the sake of steels— the dream of a powerful country.
Lu Yue and He Chao are like brother and sister. The steelworks, along with their father and mother, are like their “big” family. Everybody believes that they will be husband and wife. However, to them, in the “small” family, they are siblings, but in the “big” family, they are husband and wife. Now, this pair of husband and wife is the dream of a powerful country.
