A story about the period era of early times of Republic of China, the happenings in an established family who runs the perfume business, where the beauty of the family, 'Su Hongyu' (by Michelle Ye) invents fragrance and her love life, 'Guo Se Tian Xiang' is currently rapidly filming in Shanghai. HKFA's Best Supporting Actress award winner Michelle Ye plays two roles in the series, when accepting an interview, she expressed that she portrays the two roles with her soul, when discussed about her collaboration with male lead Hawick Lau, Michelle Ye too expressed that they have exceptionally compatible tacit understanding and does not NG for intimate scenes.
First time acting in a mystery thriller series; uses soul to portray roles
Michelle Ye plays legendary girl 'Su Hongyu' who is the girl who invents fragrance scents, in the series 'Su Hongyu' deals with a life and death love relationship, and never gives in to the challenges of fate, bringing to life the mysterious background of this woman time and after, who am I? Foes, lovers, the mesmerizing impression as well as passionate love become the biggest highlight of the series. Michelle revealed that this is the first time she is acting in a mystery thriller series, "There are very strong emotions, very delicate events, how the mystery is developed into deeper levels one after another is very interesting." Playing two similar women roles in the series is a challenge to her, "In the past when I played two roles, they are usually very different, but in this series, these two persons are similar to one another, it is very hard to differentiate, they can only be differentiated through souls, but I've thought very long on how these difference can be portrayed by visualizations, having repetitive discussions with producer about how the adjustment can be made through the expressions and the tone of speech, hopefully audience will be moved by these roles."
Meet Hawick Lau the 'Hallyu' way; No NG for intimate scenes
In the series, Michelle Ye and Hawick plays a couple, speaking of their meet, Michelle Ye describes it as very 'Hallyu', "The day before joining the filming crew, we bumped into one another at the entrance to a bar at Hong Kong Tsim Tsa Tsui street, I was passing there when I noticed he was looking at me, it was Hawick Lau, we were a little awkward then, although we don't know each other, but we know we will start working together tomorrow, so we greeted one another. Imagine meeting the person whom you always think of whenever you read your script in the crowd of such a big city, appearing before you so spontaneously. We both felt that it seemed the elements in TV series do happen in real life too sometimes." Although we have not known each other for a long time, but our tacit understanding is not too bad, "We don't really NG, mostly it's a one take, even kissing scenes where director usually prepare more takes to be taken but we usually do it within one." Michelle Ye also revealed most of her love scenes with Hawick Lau, their dialogues are said on bed, "Allowing audience to learn how to portray beautiful hugs and kisses."
Will be playing couple with Wang Baoqiang and anticipates working with Jia Zhangke
Upon completion of 'Guo Se Tian Xiang' filming, Michelle Ye and Wang Baoqiang will be working together again in a kungfu love movie which is about Choi Li Fut kungfu, "During the filming of 'Fire of Conscience' we have made a deal to work together again, can't believe we will be playing a couple this time, in fact our normal relationship is usually very tough, it should be quite interesting to portray the bubbly side of us in life this time around." Michelle Ye expresses that Wang Baoqiang will play the successor of Choy Li Fut kungfu in this new movie, she will also have a lot of fighting scenes in the movie. Talking about the director she hopes most to work with, Michelle said she anticipates most to work with Quentin Tarantino and Jia Zhangke, "I really liked 'The Inglorious Bastards' filmed by Quentin Tarantino, he met before in film festival and talked about he used to work in tapes rental shop, this is a bit similar with my experience. Meanwhile, Director Jia Zhangke's analysis towards the survival of society gives me a deep impression; I hope to have the opportunity to play his female lead."
