Hi rM fAn88! In case I haven’t officially welcomed you to MYR, WECOME! I’m the welcoming committee, in case you haven’t notice…hehe Okay all of us are, but I'm the most enthusiastic! I’m so glad that you have been more active on the board lately. MYR has lots of visitors, however lots of our members are shy. So I really appreciate you participating.
Okay so back to the topic….
I agree with you that I like her partnerships with many TVB actors and actresses. I also miss her being in TVB series. Although TVB's plots have gone downhill somewhat, I still prefer TVB over other types of companies. I just like their style of filming and I'm just more familiar with their actors/actresses...right down to their extras. So for me it's more about familiarity. TVB likes to re-use many of the same artists over and over, so for me it’s like watching someone you know.
If I were to speak selfishly, not thinking about Michelle personal career, of course I would like her to stay with TVB. Afterall, TVB series is what I watch the most. I barely watch other companies series or movies. TVB series always get released in Vietnamese to the U.S. Michelle being in series, enables me to see her on-screen more and partner up with artists I like. The only reason why I liked Michelle in the first place was b/c she was in a TVB series. But if you look it in her perspective, meaning like in a career progression, she made a good choice.
Having all that said, to answer your question if it was best for Michelle to leave TVB, I would have to scream YES! First I would like to state that Michelle is NOT signed with ATV, but she is contracted with Rich & Famous (Media Asia).
Why do I say yes? Well…
1. It has been a dream of Michelle to film movies. (Media Asia is a huge film industry)
2. When Media Asia offers you a contract, who can resists? (huge pay increase, opportunities to work with renowned directors and veteran/legendary artists)
3. A chance to appear on the big screen.
4. Freedom to work on other projects. Think of Michelle as a freelance artist, if her schedules fit, she can film series for other companies, such ATV’s Central Affairs or I-Cable’s tutor Queen. She can also do more functions and sponsorships.
5. More leisure time. I read that majority of TVB stars only get an average of 2-4 hours of sleep a night. Michelle said she gets at least 8 hours of sleep a night. She also has more time to do her hobbies like hiking.
6. TVB politics is horrible. It’s like a war zone. You never know if you will be promoted or when you will be kicked off the throne. Also, the battle b/t artist’s fans is almost ridiculous. The war of the words is even more unreasonable. All this talk of whose the better artist, who is under promoted, comparisons, etc, is so unnecessary and mean.
7. Media Asia is currently giving Michelle many opportunities. Michelle seems to do be doing well and winning the appreciation of her fellow colleges and production team. I can’t wait for her first movie female lead with Louis Koo!
I’m happy that Michelle left TVB. Michelle has grown so much professionally and she is a rising star. I hope she will be a huge movie star soon! In my opinion Michelle is in a whole different playing field. She shouldn’t be compared to TVB artists anymore. Filming movies and series is a lot more different than most realize. So I’m glad she’s not bashed on as much anymore or at least the haters are more quiet. Over the years, she has earned a few respect from some of those haters. But I know she still has haters, but at least they are less or more quiet. To those haters that said Michelle would fail or just end up doing porn, they can just EAT THEIR WORDS now…lol. Okay that was immature.
Anyways, these are my personal reasons and opinions of why it was a good idea for her to leave. I know I also went off topic a bit. This is just my two cents and I didn’t mean to offend or type this long for that matter. Sorry for ranting.
