My impression after reading Michelle’s Autobiography
‘Filled with talent and passion, every character is an extraordinary treasure’ (Cai qing bing mao, zi zi zhu ji)
Flipping open ‘Xuan Gong Lue’, these eight characters prints into my sight.
Closing ‘Xuan Gong Lue’, these eight characters prints into my mind.
Note: The eight characters (Cai qing bing mao, zi zi zhu ji) were granted by her god-father in the front page of Michelle’s autobiography. ’Xuan Gong Lue’ is Michelle’s autobiography’s Chinese title.
Michelle’s writing skills is flowing and fluent, she writes humorously. We have seen these in the columns she used to write, and this time combining all those articles into a book, with additional amusing happenings and opinions, added a new special taste to her style. This is definitely one book that Michelle’s fans must read, it has a lot of her experiences while growing up, friendship, love, gossips, rumors, etc., whatever topic everybody is interested in – why go through the gossip magazine’s made up stories and rumors?, we might as well read what the she herself really thinks. After reading this book, you will realize this girl is worth our love, worth our support, as Michelle’s fan, there’s only one word – “Worthy”!!!
Many people know of Michelle’s background of growing up, her parents divorced while she was young, then travels far to the west, and lives her own life independently… While others feel unfair on her behalf, and sympathizes her at the same time, her heart in fact appreciates this chance of being able to migrate to US as “this happening has enabled me to receive western education; deeply understanding the Chinese education as my basic, western education’s excellence as my practice.” As for the word ‘suffering’, her sole opinion is – “to mention suffering, I feel that whatever physical, soul or mind’s suffering are not the real sufferings – most people should not be upset by those. The real ‘suffering’ is the suffering of not having hope and worth, when you’ve given all your best efforts and take all the risks but can yet see tomorrow, then that is suffering. But besides the dead, whichever of us has no tomorrow? Thus, we should all live happily.” One who can be so open minded, so optimistic, what else is there to ‘worry’?! Therefore, please don’t say that she’s ‘pitiful’, today I’ve realized this word is an insult to Michelle. She definitely is not worth ‘sympathizing’ (she does not need it), she needs to be ‘admired’.
Michelle’s love, here I do not wish to speak about her love experience, and also do not wish to busybody about her ‘Xiao Bai Ge Ge’, what I want to say is, her attitude towards love. Michelle’s parents divorced, and she also extremely supports both her parents to remarry. She deeply understands “In this world, we’re all an individual physique and soul, no one is suppose to depend on another or be in debt with another, thus for this, I’ve never felt it was compulsory for parents to bring up their children, or if a man should give a living to a woman.”. She understands “The happiness of a woman in modern times should be built on an individual’s soul and personality, and not losing herself to another being that comes along. Thus, this can be said as the good or bad luck of a marriage is not the definition of a woman’s tragedy, but the tragedy comes from when she losses her oneself.” She understands “the most unfortunate that should not happen to a modern time woman is to marry someone as her life-long aim and make it as her target to struggle for.” A girl, who is so insightful and independent, lets her to be highly respected.
While we are constantly disturbed and annoyed by the injustice of her limited screentime in her movie, she in fact tells us “don’t understand why after acting as the main role, one can’t be the side role. I personally am very willing to be by the side of big actors such as Chow Yun Fatt, and act as a country girl that passes by, greeting the back of Chow who is going home, saying one line of “You’re back already!” or some sort of lines as such. Accordingly, she is willing to take one step at a time, she is at ease, she truly loves acting, she feels acting is more of quality than quantity, following a good actress, what are we still complaining about? What else is there to fuss about? I strongly believe she is walking down the path of a mega star, if she can wait, why can’t we?!
Regarding the rumors that are disturbing for fans, this needs not to be discussed further. Quoting a phrase from chapter 11 of “What is true?”, it is enough. “Our world has no one particular way that can verify a matter’s truth, including words, pictures, videos, audio, etc. Even history is merely what the victory rulers gives…” Then, to believe or not to believe those gossip magazines, it all is up to you.
About the Hong Kong paparazzi that extremely annoy people, the 9th chapter “Entertainment King of Media Era”, Michelle did a splendid elaboration (personally I feel this is the most interesting chapter, very wonderful). The content is too long so I won’t say more.
Those phrases in quotes (“”) are all from Michelle’s writing in her autobiography. After reading this book, I’ve also seen the truest side of Michelle, I respect her thinking, her wisdom, her open-mindedness… She is indeed happy. An extremely worthy book, remember to buy the original copy.
P/s: I myself just got the book from (a fan who sells the book in michelleye.cn), and finished reading it in one go. After revealing these interesting contents of Michelle’s autobiography, hopefully each of you will buy, support the original copy.
Note: The ‘I’ above is not me (translator), it’s the original poster in michelleye.cn. Only the words in italic are my note and comments. And I generally agree with this poster's comment of the aftermath of reading her book.
